The Magic Carpet Ride ~ OWOH

Photo

Well I have not been on a ride in years. I think the last time was about twenty years ago, when my daughter persuaded me to go on a big ferris wheel. I did go swim with dolphins for my daughter's 40th and my 80th birthday ( and that was awhile ago :o)~ you could say that a magic broom would be more my speed!)

I wanted to take a chance to get to meet new people and so I am entering this giveaway. It is so nice to see so many people from so many different areas....all on the Internet, which I still have trouble understanding. I still like to just read he paper and watch TV!

This book is from my personal collection. I bought it when my daughter was a little girl so it really is quite old! It was published in 1967, so I guess it really is vintage!

Please leave me a comment abut how you share hints for making ends meet today. You may be able to teach me a thing or two still. The winner will be chosen on February 15th, and you just have to leave a comment and keep your fingers crossed. Thank you, good luck to everyone!

  1. Well count me in...make ends meet? Why just tie a string together and start screaming when you can't get the knot out! Throw it up in the air and go do something else. Great giveaway.

  5. Hi Country Girl! How exciting to swim with dolphins at 80! I'm so inspired!

To make ends meet, I learned how to grow my own cucumbers and make pickles 2 years ago. I also pickled a mix of home-grown zucchini, bell pepper, onions, and carrots, which is everybody's favorite so far.

Using the debit card usallu goes so fast and easy we always spend way more than knowing what we have left in our wallet. Oh and one last tip. Safe the "small' money and treat yourself once a month on something for just you. It makes you feel special, I promise! xo Mendy

  20. What a lovely book! I love this kind of books :-)
    How we make ends meet?
We don't eat candy or baked goods anymore. No sugar allowed in the house. We feel a lot better, have saved a lot of money and lost a lot of weight.
We have a food plan, buy bulk, eat a lot of soups and stews, cook a lot at a time, and eat breakfast. That's a very good way to save some money :-D
We use a lot of lemons, salt, sand, white vinegar and baking soda in cleaning - that's good for both economy and ecology - and our health too.

Hmm, hints? I also use second-hand clothes in my creations... I collect all my flower seeds and use them the next year...We've stopped eating out almost entirely and I'm back to good old home-cooking. :)

  45. Heloise?! Is that the lady who wrote the column, "Hints From Heloise" back in the 60s? I used to read that column religiously when I was a child. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe she was in "Good Housekeeping" magazine.

How to make ends meet? My theory has always been to use all available creative resources to generate extra income. But...the trick is that you have to have fun with it!

I enjoyed visiting your blog this afternoon!

  46. Hi Helen,

I'm Robyne from Australia. Great to meet you. I have bookmarked your blog and will come back to visit again. I would love to win your lovely vintage book, and please do come over to my place, it's #70 on the One World One Heart list, have a look around and enter into my gift draw.

  47. This is a fabulous giveaway - thanks so much for entering my name in your draw!

Swimming with the dolphins at 80? Sounds like you could teach us all a few new tricks! Good for you!

I used to use my hobby to help make ends meet - selling greeting cards I made and teaching stamping classes. After awhile I found my hobby was turning into a chore. Then I furthered my education and was able to get a better job so I can now enjoy my hobby again without the pressure of trying to earn money from it. Not sure what tip is in my story - except maybe to those who are working find out what credentials you need for that promotion you want and go and get them. It's not easy, but how many worthwhile things are?

    Cindy :)

If your lovely 1967 book is vintage - and I'm a little older than that, that makes me vintage too - not that I mind of course! My tip - share your bathwater with someone else!

I hope you can come and see my giveaways (if you haven’t already!)
